George F. Short III
PALMER TOWNSHIP
George F. Short III, 81, a longtime Palmer Township resident, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020 in ManorCare, Palmer.
Born January 12, 1939 in Easton, PA, he was the son of the late George F. Short, Jr. and Ruth E. (Smith) Short.
His wife of 54 years, Mary Ann (Palmer) Short, passed away August 18, 2017. He and his wife married June 8, 1963 in the church parsonage because construction of the church was not complete.
George was a 1956 graduate of Easton High School.
He retired from Lehigh Litho now ALCOM Printing Group where he worked for 21 years. He had owned and operated Short's Service. After retirement, George worked at Eastern Auto Parts Warehouse. Years ago, he was employed in the print shop of Ingersoll Rand Company and worked at Park Avenue Atlantic.
George was assistant fire chief at the former Nazareth Speedway and pit fireman at Pocono Raceway.
He was a member of St. Paul's Third Lutheran Church, Palmer Township, where he sang in the choir, had been an assistant Sunday school superintendent and served on church council during the planning and moving of the church from Easton.
George was also a life member of Palmer Municipal Fire Department where he was a lieutenant and trustee. He was a member of the PMFD Fireman's Relief where he had served as secretary and was a member of Lehigh Valley Region AACA participating in car shows and cruises.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald G. Short and his wife Diane L., of Bushkill Township, and Daniel G. Short, of Palmer Township; and two grandchildren, Samantha and Evan Short.
Call Monday 9:00-10:30am in the Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., 2101 Northampton St., Wilson Borough. There is a limit of 12 people allowed in the funeral home at a time, with social distancing and masks required. Private services will be held in St. Paul's Third Lutheran Church.
