Billy and I were part of a small group of us from Easton who went into the army together. Some of us were drafted. I enlisted. We went through through basic training together at Fort Dix before being sent our different ways. I remember how popular Billy was among his fellow recruits when a regular  package of home made cookies from his mom arrived every couple of weeks. Billy was billeted on the first floor in our barracks. I was on the second floor and never seem to be in time for mail call on the first floor, nevertheless he always managed to save a few of those delicious cookies for me. We lost touch after basic but I'll always remember and appreciate his friendship and kindness.

Willard and I were classmates at Forks Elementary School.  Back in the days when you played softball often while at school and afterwards, Willard stood out as a strong right handed batter.  Not sure he he attempted to go further with his batting skills but he was heading in the right direction at Forks.

He always achieved high grades and led our class in academics.  Am sure that he scored highest in the boys category.

Although we went our separate ways after school, will always remember him as a good friend and classmate.
