Joseph Richard Amato, 80, of New Cumberland, PA, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg Hospital. An Army veteran, Joseph retired as a quality control engineer for Cerro Metal in Bellefonte. A graduate of Easton High School, he received his B.S. from Lafayette College. Born in Easton on June 15, 1938, he was the son of the late Phillip and Ruth (Frey) Amato. He was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Amato. A dedicated family man, Joseph is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann M. (Zorbas) Amato; two sons and their wives, Phillip C. and Carol Amato of Spring City, Joseph P. and Denise Amato of New Cumberland; a daughter, Jean Amato of Brooklyn; two sisters, Beatrice Guadagnino of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Patricia Romano of Tavares, FL. He was also deeply loved by seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and fifteen nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Michael McFadden as celebrant. Committal service and burial at Gethsemane Cemetery, Palmer Township, will be at a later date. Friends and family will be received 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland.
