John Affa

John Robert Affa, 84, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at home after losing his battle with ALS.
John was born on February 8, 1939 in Allentown, PA; the son of the late Marie Sterchele Affa. He graduated in 1956 from Easton High School and joined the US Navy, serving on the USS Tarawa Aircraft Carrier from 1956 to 1960 as a cook and baker.
He and his wife, Roseann Zammatore Affa celebrated 60 years together this past September 15th. He worked for J.T. Baker Chemical Co. in Phillipsburg as a Lab Technician and retired from M&M Mars in Hackettstown, NJ as a Research Chemist after 23 years.
After retirement, he enjoyed baking for his family, drawing artwork for the grandchildren and traveling with his wife. He was an avid reader of finance, nutrition and health topics. He was a self-taught private investor.
He loved his family and was always available to help out in any way he could.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, are his children, Christine Mertz and Michael Affa (fiancée, Judi Pittenger); grandchildren, Alicia Ritter, Shana Mertz, Thomas Mertz, Michael Mertz, Brittany Affa, Madison Affa (Anthony Rodriquez), Blake Affa, Mia Pittenger; and great grandchildren, Matoskah Ritter, Jolon Ritter, Liliana Mertz, Rosalia Mertz, Isabella Rodriquez, Ariana Rodriquez, and Alexandra Chunglo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 10:30 am at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Avenue, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) followed by a short service with military honors at Northampton Memorial Shrine, Green Pond Road, Easton, PA. Arrangements are entrusted to Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be offered in John’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Avenue, Easton, PA 18045.
